Scott Kenneth Bates, 50, of Cloquet, died Friday, November 8, 2013. He was born in Cloquet on September 22, 1963 to Gene and Lillian Bates. Scott graduated from Cloquet High School and later went to college in Staples, MN to be a heavy equipment operator. After school he moved to California where he worked as a mechanic for a well drilling company for six years. He then moved back home and has lived in Cloquet for almost twenty years . Scott was currently working as an activities director for the Human Development Center in Cloquet. He was preceded in death by his brother, Terry Bates; his aunt, Wilma Ketchum; and uncle, Kenny Ketchum. Scott is survived by his parents, Gene and Lillian Bates of Cloquet; brother, Gary Bates of Mathowa; sister-in-law, Lauri Bates of Buffalo; nephew, Garret Bates and his children, Addyson and Greyson of Cloquet; two nieces, Nicki Bates and Amber (Josh) Schindele of Buffalo; cousin, Bill (Ericka) Ketchum and their son (Tate) of Utah; cousin, Vicki (Rex) Tucker of Alaska; four great-nieces, and two great-nephews. Memorial Services were held on Thursday, November 14, 2013 in Bethel Lutheran Church,1012 29th Street, Scanlon MN .
