Richard "Dick" William Pickus, 72, of Saginaw, died peacefully with his family by his side on Sunday, October 22, 2006 in St. Eligius Health Care Center, Duluth where he had been a resident for 15 years. He was born July 10, 1934 in Prior Lake to William and Meta Pickus, attended Proctor and lived most of his life in Saginaw. On May 14, 1960 Dick married Janice Leno in Cloquet. He worked for Conwed and USG from 1956 until retiring due to health reasons in 1989. Dick was a member of Local Union 158. He loved spending time with his grandchildren and enjoyed watching sports, fishing, hunting and just spending time outdoors. Dick was preceded in death by his parents; his step-father, Theodore Swenson and a brother, James on December 24, 2005. Richard is survived by his wife, Janice of Cloquet; two sons, Gerald (Wendy) and David, both of Cloquet; three daughters, Diane (Kenneth) Stevens of Ramsey, Jeannette (Philip) Shovein of Proctor and Denise (Joe) Bodell of Duluth; three brothers, Clarence (Marlene) Pickus of Alborn, Ronald (Bobbie) Swenson of California and Dale (Sharon) Swenson of Duluth; three sisters, Betty nee Pickus (Don) Freeman of Hermantown, Mary (John) Sundquist of Cloquet and Barbara (Mike) Wilson of Cook; 15 grandchildren, Chad, Frank, and Gerald Jr. Pickus and Katie (Matt) Ammesmaki, Matthew, Jonathan, Daniel and Timothy Stevens, Amanda (Seth) Andre, Nathan and Elizabeth Shovein and Derek, Brandon, Samantha and Bryce Bodell, and 6 great grandchildren; Ann Marie Ammesmaki, Brayden Shovein, Gavin Lemier and Chase Andre and two expected. The family would like to express their deepest gratitude to the staff of St. Eligius for their devoted and loving care of Richard. He truly loved all of you. Funeral services were held on Thursday, October 26, 2006 in Northland Funeral Home with burial in St. John's Cemetery, Industrial Township.
