Margaret Jane McDermeit
September 23rd, 1926 - October 9th, 2016
Margaret Jane McDermeit, 90 of Floodwood passed away on Sunday, October 9, 2016 in Northshore Estates in Duluth. She was born Sept. 23, 1926 in Mora to Sextus and Grace Solmonson. Margaret grew up in Big Fork and graduated high school from the Bible College in Fergus Falls. She then moved to Hibbing and later to Hinckley where she met and married the love of her life. She married James McDermeit on April 3, 1947. They lived in Hinckley until 1956 when the moved to Norwood where they owned and operated the Gambles Store. In 1960 they moved to Floodwood. Margaret was a mail carrier for Rt. 3. They also farmed together in Floodwood. Margaret was a life member and Past President of the Floodwood VFW Post 8299 Auxiliary. She was also a member of the Floodwood Bible Chapel. Margaret enjoyed cooking. She was very content in her home and while living at Riverview Manor, Margaret was the after hours "go to gal" for many years. Margaret was preceded in death by a daughter, Betsy McDermeit, her husband, Jim; and brothers, Phil and Jim Solmonson. She is survived by her daughter, Peggy Newton of Floodwood and one granddaughter, Belinda Kelley of Floodwood; sister, Betsy Sandstrom of Boise, Idaho; and several nieces and nephews. The family would like to thank the staffs at Plainview Estates, Northshore Estates, and Essentia Hospice for their compassionate care of Margaret. Visitation: 12:00 Noon until the 1:00 p.m. Memorial Service Thursday, October 13, 2016 in New Life Community Church in Floodwood. Arrangements entrusted to Atkins Northland Funeral Home, Cloquet.
