Mementos

Always one step behind his twin sibling, we could never expect, nor be prepared, for Isaac to join his brother Ethan at only twenty years of age… an age of promise and hope. Entering this world minutes behind his brother, Isaac now joins him in the arms of the Heavenly Father just one year after the initial crushing loss of Ethan. Isaac was born on December 10, 1996 in Duluth. He attended school in Esko until his sophomore year. He graduated from Spruce Creek High School in Port Orange in May of 2015. Preparing himself to carry on the family business Isaac was scheduled to engage in landscaping studies at Hennepin Technical College in the Twin Cities. Isaac had just recently returned to the hometown and friends he longed for in Esko, Minnesota. Working for his uncle Ken at Hammarlund Nursery, he enjoyed learning his new trade. He had previously been living with his twin brother Ethan and his mother, Arlene Hammarlund in Port Orange since 2012. This is a very familiar area due to the decades-long snow-birding of his grandparents, Ken & Joyce Hammarlund, made possible by the nature of the landscaping business here in northern Minnesota. In Port Orange, Isaac played football, caught his first big Mahi while offshore fishing, tirelessly hit the basketball court and explored the Halifax River and Ponce Inlet on jet skis or stand-up paddleboards. Back in the Northland, he enjoyed his recent skiing adventures at Lutsen and Spirit Mountain. Deer hunting, fishing, and kayaking at his grandparent's home on Sand Lake rounded out his years… a very active and adventurous life. Always the dapper one in the family, Isaac knew his way around a Nordstrom's and kept tuned up at the gym weekly. Isaac is survived by his mother, Arlene Hammarlund of Port Orange FL; his father, Kevin Halverson of Janesville, WI; brothers, Luke Halverson of Melbourne, FL and Noah Halverson and sister-in-law Keri Halverson of Esko; maternal grandparents, Ken and Joyce Hammarlund of Moose Lake and Port Orange, FL; paternal grandparents, Ted and Marguerite Halverson of Janesville, WI; uncles, Mark Halverson of Highland, IN and Ken A. Hammarlund of Esko; cousin, Andrea Halverson of Knoxville, TN and stepfather, Keith Lennartson of Port Orange, FL. Each of us have burdens to carry. Sometimes, they grow suddenly, overwhelmingly. Sometimes, so sudden we cannot find the help, the answers we need. We'll never understand what broke, what made the struggle become unbearable. All we know is that a very quiet and very gentle soul is lost to us in an unimaginable way. We are left here to wonder why. We are left here to learn from our losses and reach out to each other and find strength. "Cast your cares on the Lord and he will sustain you; he will never let the righteous be shaken." ~ Psalm 55:22 Please join us in celebrating the life of Isaac Halverson. Visitation will be from 10:00 until the 11:00 a.m. Memorial Service, Friday, May 5, 2017 in St. Matthews Lutheran Church, 4 Elizabeth Avenue, Esko.
