Donald Karl Maki
May 14th, 1942 - April 16th, 2015
Donald Karl "Donnie K." Maki, 72, of Cromwell, died Wednesday, April 16, 2015 in Solvay Hospice House, Duluth. He was born in Cloquet, the son of Arvo and Helen Maki. Don was a 1960 graduate of Cromwell High School. He had worked at the Co-op feed store in Cromwell, Diamond Match in Cloquet and was a part-time bus driver. Don was then employed as a pipefitter for Conoco at their refinery in Wrenshall. Upon the closing of the Wrenshall refinery, he was transferred to Ponca City, OK where he was fortunate to be able to retire in 1996 at the age of 54. Don loved life! He especially enjoyed talking with people and had the ability to relate to people from 8 to 80 and was never judgmental. Through the years, he enjoyed being outdoors, working in the woods, bowling, golfing, hunting, and fishing. He was preceded in death by his parents; son, Danny Maki; and a sister, JoAnn Wilson. Don is survived by his children, Lonna (Bob) Hutchinson of Floodwood, David (Dolly) Maki of Brainerd and Pam (Butch) Peterson of Cromwell; his partner, Dar McMillan of Carlton; grandchildren, Danielle (Tim) White, Tabitha Tollgaard, Ross (Karly) Tollgaard, Rachel (Jeff) Starr, Derek (Monica) Maki and Cody Scavezze; 12 great grandchildren with one due in May and another in September; and brother, Duane (Shirley) Maki of Duluth; Memorial Services were held on Tuesday, April 21, 2015 in Atkins-Northland Funeral Home, 801 14th Street, Cloquet, followed by a light dinner in the Fireside Room of the funeral home.
