Bernice Ethel Himango, 92 of Carlton passed away on Tuesday, May 29, 2018 in Inter-Faith Care Center. She was born June 23, 1925 in Cloquet to Hjalmer and Regina (Saukko) Maunu. Bernice graduated from Lincoln High School in Esko in 1943. She married Carl Himango on April 20, 1944. She worked at Diamond Match before going to work as a cook at Lincoln High School in Esko. Bernice lived in Mercedes, Texas for 20 years before returning to Carlton. Bernice was a member of Christ Evangelical Lutheran Church in Weslaco, Texas. She enjoyed crocheting, knitting and doing stain glass. Bernice was preceded in death by her husband, Carl; three brothers, Walter, Ray and Roy Maunu; and two sisters, Edna Oraskovich and Verna Grossman. She is survived by her daughter, Carol (Jim) Hongisto of Hermantown; son, Gary (Joyce) Himango of Fort Mohave, Arizona; five grandchildren, Mike Hongisto, David (Pamela) Hongisto, Jay (Melissa) Himango, Jody Himango, and Jenny (Bob) Barthen; three great grandchildren, McKenzie Himango, Madison Himango, and Logan Hongisto; and special nephews, Bob (MaryJo) Grossman and Larry (Donna) Oraskovich. Visitation: 10 until the 11:00 a.m. Memorial Service Saturday, June 2, 2018 in the Atkins Northland Funeral Home, 801 14th St., Cloquet. Inurnment will be in Apostolic Lutheran Cemetery.
