Rudolph "Rudy" Lundstrom
June 12th, 1924 - November 18th, 2018
Rudolph "Rudy" Emil Lundstrom, 94, of Duluth passed away on Sunday, November 18, 2018 at Primrose Retirement Community where he lived. He was born June 12, 1924 in Butte, Montana to Emil and Hannah (Kaan) Lundstrom. The family moved to what became the family farm in East Lake, MN, when Rudy was 6 years old. He graduated from McGregor High School in 1942. On October 25, 1947 Rudy married Siiri Lampi in Cromwell. They made their home in Cloquet until 1954 when they moved to Cromwell. While in Cromwell they were members of Bethany Lutheran Church. In 1964 they moved back to Cloquet and were members of Zion Lutheran Church. Rudy began his automotive career working for Siiri's brother, Dauno Lampi, and worked for several dealerships through the years. He was the shop foreman at Wood City Motors in Cloquet until they closed, and then worked for Superior Motors in Superior until retirement in 1985. Rudy was a passionate gardener, woodsman and conservationist, and spent many hours cross-country skiing, fishing and hunting. He and Siiri trekked to Flin Flon, Manitoba early in June every year, catching many trophy lake trout, northern, and walleye. They traveled across the western U.S. for years as members of the Good Sam RV Club, and wintered in Yuma, Arizona. Rudy was very active with the Boy Scouts of America, and started the first Boy Scout Troop in Cromwell back in the late 1950's. He served on the Lake Superior BSA District Council and received the Silver Scout Award. He began silversmithing in Yuma, and made beautiful jewelry, using semi-precious gemstones in his creations. Rudy was preceded in death by his wife of 68 years, Siiri; parents, brothers Reino and Hubert Lundstrom; sister, Lillian Ganter, and many other dear friends and family members. He is survived by his daughters, Polly (Gary) Niemi of Superior and Peggy (Forrest) Ludsen of Florida; one son, Bill Lundstrom of Ohio; sister, LaVerne Hornby of Cloquet; nine grandchildren; several great grandchildren; and nieces and nephews. Visitation: 10 until the 11:00 a.m. funeral service Saturday, November 24, 2018 in Atkins Northland Funeral Home, 801 14th St., Cloquet. Burial will be in Maple Grove Cemetery.
