Joseph John Miller, 92 of Cloquet passed away on Saturday, February 16, 2019 in Inter-Faith Care Center in Carlton. He was born September 6, 1926 in Sanborn, Wisconsin to Nicholas and Rose Miller. Joe farmed in the Bayfield County area until 1945 when he joined the Army. He served with the 58th and 62nd Signal Corps, occupying Japan for 14 months. After his discharge in 1947 he returned home. He met Annabelle Isberg and the couple was married on July 24, 1948 in Duluth. They made their home in Cloquet and together raised three children. Joe worked at Western Electric and Wood Conversion for a short time before going to work at Northwest Paper. He was a welder and retired after 35 years at Potlatch. Joe was a member of Local 939 and served as trustee with the union for 20 years. He was a life member of the Cloquet VFW and a 50 continuous year member of the American Legion. He and Annabelle were also members of the Bunyon Busters Dance Club Joe was preceded in death by his wife, Annabelle; four sisters, Mary Miller, Louise Schraufnagel, Mildred Carlson and Rose Fox; three brothers, Martin, Mike and John Miller; and special friend, Trudy Nyholm. He is survived by his three children, Gregory (Carol) Miller of Cloquet, Michelle (Bob) Iafrate of Rancho Santa Fe and Deirdre (Thomas) Olson of Parker, Colo.; sister, Ann Miller of Ashland; four grandchildren, Theresa (Joel) Edwards, Chad (Chanda) Iafrate, Christopher (Hillary) Olson and Kerry Olson; and 10 great grandchildren. Visitation: 1:00 until the 2:00 p.m. funeral service Thursday, February 21, 2019 in the Atkins Northland Funeral Home, Cloquet. Military Honors will be accorded by the Cloquet Combined Honor Guard. Burial will be in Birch Lake Cemetery, Mason, Wisc. In lieu of flowers memorials may be made to Inter-Faith Care Center.
