Richard Evert Anderson, 89, of Cromwell passed away Tuesday, August 13, 2019 in his home. He passed peacefully with his family by his side. He was born July 8, 1930 to Evert and Martha (Finell) Anderson and grew up on the family farm in Cromwell. On January 6, 1951 he married Joan Louise Johnson. Richard was a school bus driver and custodian for the Cromwell School District all while working on his dairy farm, where his innovative ideas of farming techniques, free stall housing and side opening milking parlor, gained him features in the Farmer Magazine and Dairy Men's Digest. He was also a gifted welder. In 1978 Richard and his wife, Joan, developed Island Lake Campground starting with three tent spots and expanded to 30 camper sites with full hookups, before retiring at the age of 85. Richard was a member of Bethany Lutheran Church of Cromwell. He served on the board of REA, Soil and Water Conservation and numerous farm/creamery boards, including AMPI and Twin Ports Dairy. He loved whittling, snowmobiling, dining out and wintering in Arizona with his wife, Joan. Most of all, Richard loved spending time with his family and friends. He was preceded in death by his parents, Evert and Martha Anderson; sisters, Joann and Mary; infant brother, Russell; and a great grandson, Kaleb. He is survived by his wife, Joan; sons, Guy (LeeAnn), Kenny (Deb); daughters, Mary Bridge (special friend, Duane), and Penny (Ken) Blankenship; sister, Donna Rengo; and brother-in-law, Bill Simpson. He will be missed deeply by his entire family, including 13 grandchildren; 24 great grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews.
