September 22nd, 1924 - December 1st, 2019
Celia Mae Swan, 95 of Moose Lake, died Sunday, December 1, 2019 in Essentia Health St. Mary's Medical Center, Duluth. She was born September 22, 1924 in Gibbon, NE, the daughter of Jewell and Lillie Perkins. At the age of 8, she moved with her family from Gillette, WY where they homesteaded, to Dewey, WI. Four years later, the family moved to Wrenshall. Celia was a 1944 graduate of Wrenshall High School. While attending high school, Celia worked for many vegetable farms in the spring and fall. In the summer she helped with milking and hay bailing on the family farm. She married Homer Swan on June 10, 1944 and together made their home in Barnum. On June 14, 1948, Celia started working at the Moose Lake State Hospital, where she worked for 35 years until retiring in 1982. Celia enjoyed fishing with her husband. She also enjoyed quilting, dabbled with oil painting, reading, visiting with her friends and enjoyed her yard and flowers. Celia patiently waited for spring, when she would tap maple trees and make maple syrup. She was preceded in death by her husband, Homer Swan; siblings, Donna Finberg, Mona Hughes, Mary Bacon, Jay Perkins and Ronald Perkins; and her parents. Celia is survived by her daughter, Jessie "Sandi" Lee (John) Fierke of Barnum Township; granddaughter, Jessica Lee Fierke of Moose Lake; great grandchildren, Riley and Hayden Fierke of Moose Lake; sister, Karen Wassinger, of Denver, Guy Perkins of Florida and several other nieces and nephews. No services will be held at this time. A graveside service will be in the spring in Sunset Cemetery, Barnum. Arrangements entrusted to Atkins-Northland Funeral Home, 801 14th Street, Cloquet.
