JoAnn Lucinda Bock, 84 of Floodwood, formerly of Elmer Township, passed away on Friday, December 13, 2019 in Essentia St. Mary's Medical Center in Duluth. She was born October 24, 1935 in Elmer Township to Joe and Alice Matvey. She graduated from Toivola-Meadowlands High School in 1953. On February 12, 1955 she married Calvin Bock in Duluth. They made their home in Elmer and together raised five daughters. JoAnn also worked at Burns Lunch, which she managed, Bio Café, and Jeno's before going to St. Mary's Medical Center where she worked in food service and catering. She worked there for 25 years, retiring in 1998. In 1985 she was named the Employee of the Year. While working at St. Mary's she also worked at Bridgeman's in Floodwood from 1990 -1995. After retiring in 1998 she took a few years off but in 2003 she went to work at the Junction Oasis in Carlton until 2013. JoAnn was preceded in death by her husband, Calvin; an infant sister; and three brothers, Len "Chuck" Matvey, Les Matvey and Walter "Buck" Matvey. She is survived by five daughters, Linda (Keith) Saralampi of Toivola, Shelley (Damudar) Bhola of Groveland, Flor., Brenda (Jerry) Rose of East Bethel, Patti (Brian) Bernsdorf of Elmer, and Julie (Bob) Young of Floodwood; brothers-in-law, Chris Bock of Duluth and John Bock of Denver, Colo.; sisters-in-law, Esther Matvey of Elmer, Kathy Matvey of Floodwood, Helen Nelson of Osseo, Marjorie Youngberg of North Branch, and Claire Bock of Duluth; 15 grandchildren, Ryan, Adam, Robbie, Amy, Shane, Tyler, Lacey, Trevor, Riley, Nick, Caine, Jaimen, Miranda, Celia, and Sterre; 14 great grandchildren; and her dear friend, Iney Buxton of Cloquet. Visitation: 10 until the 11:00 a.m. funeral service Wednesday, December 18, 2019 in the Atkins Northland Funeral Home, 801 14th St., Cloquet. A time of lunch and fellowship will follow in the Fireside Room of the funeral home. Burial will be in Rosehill Cemetery in Elmer Township.
