Richard William Hantz
March 5th, 1931 - October 24th, 2020
Richard William Hantz, 89, of Cloquet, passed away on Saturday, October 24, 2020 at the Solvay Hospice House. He was born March 5, 1931 to Samuel and Mary Hantz. He grew up in Gnesen, MN and graduated from Duluth Central High School. On December 2, 1950 he married the love of his life, Gloria Marie Vnuk. They were married for 65 years before her passing. He loved her until his death. He also had endless love and devotion to his family and friends. Richard was very proud of his skills and accomplishments. He built numerous houses, a cabin, beautiful furniture, and about anything you can make out of wood. He was extremely handy and could fix anything using his millright skills. His sausage making skills were exceptional. Richard loved hunting and getting out fished by Gloria. Spending time at the lake cabin with family and friends was most gratifying for Richard. He was a member of Queen of Peace Catholic Church, Moose Club, Eagles Club, and Potlatch Quarter Century Club. He worked for Potlatch for over 40 years. Richard was preceded in death by his wife, Gloria, his parents, his sisters, Victoria, Virginia, Lucille, Patricia; and brother, Thomas. He is survived by his children, Gregory (Dawn) of Minnesota, Scott (Joan) of Montana, Mike of Washington, and Kim (Tom) Zuk of North Dakota; his sister, Gloria McGonigle of Florida; his grandchildren, Valeria (Joe) Fischer, Carlin and Sam Hantz, Amanda (Ben) Deering, Josh and Cassie Troge; step grandchildren, Aleesha and Anthony Desjarlait; eight great-grandchildren; and numerous nieces and nephews. The family would like to give special thanks to sister in-law Jeanne Toboleski, Bill Stoberg, and Deloris and Bernie Karolak for their friendship, assistance and being fun card players. We would like to also thank Essentia Health hospice nurses for the caring job they do. Visitation: 10 until the 11:00 a.m. memorial service Friday, October 30, 2020 in the Atkins Northland Funeral Home, 801 14th St., Cloquet. Inurnment will be in New Calvary Cemetery.
