Nick Charles Leaskas
March 21st, 1931 - April 28th, 2017
3/21/1931-4/28/2017 Born in Grammeni Oxia Greece to Charles and Effee Leaskas. Nick and his family immigrated to America via Ellis Island in 1946. The stories of their lives in Greece and their journey to America are bedded in the fabric of our souls forever. They made their home in St Paul with the help of the Greek Community. Nick served in the US Army during the Korean War seeing front line action and received two bronze stars. He married Hazel Rozella Larson in 1954. They were married 62 years. A small statured man known by all to be fearless and to speak his mind colorfully and honestly. He was one of a kind. He was also tender hearted and was known to buy meals for homeless people and to help out anyone who he saw was in need. He was passionate of his Greek Heritage, proud of his family and a friend to many. He was loved and will be dearly missed. Survived by his wife, Hazel; daughter, Eftehia Mia (Mike) Bakker; son, Kosta (Diana); grandchildren, Brittney, Alexandra, Jase, Jaren and Eleni; sisters, Alice Capoyianes, Tina Leaskas and many nieces, nephews and close family friends. Preceded in death by George Leaskas and Helen (Chris) Zubulake and nephew Chuck Zubulake. Visitation Friday, May 5th from 4 to 7 pm at Willwerscheid Funeral Home 1167 Grand Ave, St Paul, MN with the Trisagion service at 6 pm. Funeral services 10:00 AM Saturday, May 6th at St George Greek Orthodox Church, 1111 Summit Avenue, St Paul. Interment at Roselawn Cemetery. Memorials to St. George Greek Orthodox Church or to the family.
