Wendy E. Warren
October 16th, 1951 - June 24th, 2022
Wendy Elizabeth Warren was born October 16, 1951 in St Paul, MN to Margaret Beyer Warren and William W Warren ll. She was the seventh of Maggie's and Bill's eight children. Wendy attended St Mark's School, then Visitation School, graduating in 1969. Completing the training to become a Montessori teacher in 1979 set Wendy on the path of a career -a calling - that she loved, enabling her to shape the lives of many students and colleagues for the rest of her life. Wendy taught at and led Highland Park Montessori School for over 35 years. In addition to her work at HPMS, Wendy had active roles as a mentor, workshop trainer, event coordinator and Board member at the Montessori Center of Minnesota. Wendy successfully battled lymphoma into remission which lasted two years. A secondary cancer caused by the treatment for lymphoma took her life on June 24, 2022. Wendy was preceded in death by her parents, her brother David and her sister Shelley. She is survived by her husband of 43 years, Ed Ignatowicz, who says he is the luckiest man in the world to have had Wendy for a life partner; her sons Javan (Tonya), Nathan (Brenda) and Zackary; her grandchildren Jasmine (T.J.), Jayde (Kyle), Deklan, J.T., Avian and Maceo; and her siblings William (Casey), Richard (Kathy), John (Bonnie), Jill and Deb. Wendy will be remembered for her quick wit, her warmth, her creativity, and the joy she gave to hundreds of children. She was a model to fellow Montessori teachers as the example to follow to the point where others would ask, "What would Wendy do?" She was a unique, wonderful, giving, caring person. Wendy loved all creatures great and small, loved being surrounded by them and the other natural wonders at her family's cabin on Thornton Lake near Aitkin, MN. A family memorial gathering was held for Wendy in July, 2022. Please consider a contribution to the Montessori Center of Minnesota (montessoricentermn.org) or the Lymphothusiasts Research Fund at the University of Minnesota (Lymphothusiasts Research Fund (umn.edu) in Wendy's memory.
