Lois "Smith" Loretta Burns
June 1st, 1935 - March 9th, 2014
Lois Smith Burns was born in Albany Oregon and graduated from Albany High School. She attended Oregon State University, and Oregon College of Education where she got her Bachelor’s degree in Education. She moved to Portland in 1960, where she was an elementary school teacher for 32 years. Lois passed away Sunday night after a 2 1/2 -year battle with ALS. She is survived by her children, Marchelle (Burns) Watson, Joe Burns, Stephanie (Burns) Boylen, and her grandchildren, Sophie and Henry Burns, Ally and Lauren Mayes and Cameron Watson. A Celebration of Life service will be held at 11:00 a.m. Thursday, March 13th 2014, at Wilhelm Portland Memorial Funeral Home 6705 SE 14th Ave, Portland, Oregon. At Wilhelm's Portland Memorial, we have a rich history dating back to 1901 when we became the first crematory west of the Mississippi River, known then as The Portland Cremation Association. Our historic chapel, marked by its cornerstone placed on February 5th, 1901, has stood the test of time. Today, our memorial site spans 8 stories, approximately 7 miles of corridors of beautifully preserved architecture, and the largest mausoleum on the west coast, spanning 2.5 city blocks....
