John Emerson Elwood July 01, 1949 – February 16, 2013 John was born in Portland. He graduated with St Agatha’s Golden Anniversary Class of 1963, and Central Catholic in 1967. He served with honors in the US Army from Sept. 1968-Feb. 1977. Retired as an FAA Air Traffic Control Specialist in 2004 and graduated with honors in 2007 from the Culinary School at the Art Institute of Seattle. John was deeply loved by friends and family. He is survived by his beloved wife, Karol of Beavercreek; mother, Anne Elwood, Milwaukie; sister, Laura Klein (Mike), Vancouver; sister, Roslyn Ellison (Mike), Bellevue, Wash.; sister Mary Shannon, Happy Valley; brother, Peter Elwood, Aloha and 15 –mile Creek The Dalles. Also his beloved in-laws and many nieces and nephews, cousins and friends along with his two black labs Amy Lou and Lexie. Services will be held Tuesday, Feb. 26 at St Agatha Catholic Church, 1430 SE Nehalem, Portland, OR 97202. Rosary at 1:15 p.m., funeral mass at 2 p.m. Remembrances to the Oregon Humane Society. At Wilhelm's Portland Memorial, we have a rich history dating back to 1901 when we became the first crematory west of the Mississippi River, known then as The Portland Cremation Association. Our historic chapel, marked by its cornerstone placed on February 5th, 1901, has stood the test of time. Today, our memorial site spans 8 stories, approximately 7 miles of corridors of beautifully preserved architecture, and the largest mausoleum on the west coast, spanning 2.5 city blocks....
