Effie Estella Weis

Effie Estella Weis, 100, of Carlton died Sunday, November 24, 2002 in Community Memorial Hospital in Cloquet. She was born October 23, 1902 in Mantorville, Minn. to Joseph and Nettie Sanford. She attended school in Milton, Minn. Effie married Clifford Weis, a cheesemaker, in 1919 in Red Wing, Minn. After his death in 1985, she married Maurice Weis in 1987. She worked at Tetu's Cloquet Dry Cleaning for eight years and in 1953, she purchased and operated the Carlton Dry Cleaners in Carlton and the Park Cleaners in Cloquet. Effie was an expert seamstress and she enjoyed music and dancing. She was a life member of the Carlton VFW Auxiliary and a baptized and confirmed member of the Bethel Lutheran Church in Scanlon. She was preceded in death by her husband, Clifford in 1985; her second husband, Maurice in 1997; a daughter, Elrose Johnson; a son, Lauren Weis; a grandson, Mike Weis; a great great granddaughter, Candice; three brothers, Ralph, Merle, and Ozile; and a sister, Blanche. Effie is survived by two daughters, Eunice Eklund and Delores (James) Cooper, both of Cloquet; 15 grandchildren; 41 great grandchildren; 30 great great grandchildren and one great great great granddaughter. Memorial services were held at 2:00 p.m. on Friday, November 29, 2002 in Northland Funeral Home, 801 14th Street, Cloquet. A time of fellowship and lunch followed at the Carlton VFW Club.
