Mary Ann Newby Lee, 87, of Cloquet and Brownsville, Texas died Thursday, July 15, 2010, in her Cloquet home. She was born in 1923 in Virginia, MN to William and Emma Gardner. The family relocated to Duluth early on and she graduated from Central High School in 1941. On September 3, 1943, Mary Ann married AJ Newby. They lived in New York City and Joliet, IL before making their permanent home in the Carlton/Cloquet area. Their retirement winters were spent in Brownsville, TX. Mary had worked for Harnish's Clothing Store, 1st Bank and retired from the Cloquet School District. After AJ's death in 1993, Mary Ann married Peter S. Lee on July 5, 1997. They continued living summers in Minnesota and winters in Texas and enjoyed traveling and entertaining. Mary Ann was preceded in death by her first husband, AJ; her son, Scott; her parents; two brothers and one sister. She is survived by her husband, Peter S. Lee of Cloquet; daughter, Carol (Steve) Stumpf; daughter-in-law, Cindy Stratton; two grandchildren; six great grandchildren; many nieces and a nephew; her cat, Tiki, and her special friends from the Cozy.
