Sarah Ellen Makela, 89 of Cloquet died Thursday, March 25, 2004. She was born November 26, 1914 in Waterloo, Iowa to George and Maude (Zink) Campbell. As a young girl, she moved with her family to Sandstone. Sarah married Eino Makela on December 22, 1933 in Finlayson. They lived most of their married life in California. They moved back to Minnesota in 1974, making their home in Mahtowa. Sarah loved to bake, cook, garden and can. She was happiest when she could help others. Sarah was preceded in death by her husband, Eino; sister, Lorene Schuppman; brothers, William, Alva, and Bernard Campbell; and a niece, Arlene List. She will be dearly missed by her nieces and nephews, June Moore and Robert (Mary Ann) Campbell both of Montana, Joy Schumacher of Shakopee, Alvin (Margie) Campbell of Burnsville, Margaret Mary Campbell and Rick Campbell both of Arizona, Andrew Campbell of California, Bernard (Lu) Campbell Jr. of Bemidji, Betty Cummings of Pine City, Karen Colberg of Vadnais Heights, Mary Ann Groh of White Bear Lake, Susan Brisson of Brainerd, Carol Pegelow of Forest Lake, and Bonnie (Stan) Berglund of Mahtowa; and several great nieces and nephews and their families. Funeral services were held Monday, March 29, 2004 in Northland Funeral Home in Cloquet with Pastor Phil Swensson officiating. Burial was in Spring Park Cemetery in Sandstone. Arrangements entrusted to Northland Funeral Home, Cloquet.
