Steven Jon Bonneville
July 24th, 1944 - February 26th, 2006
Steven Jon Bonneville, age 61 of Hinckley, formerly of Cloquet died Sunday, February 26, 2006 in Oakdale after a lengthy battle with cancer. Steve was born July 24, 1944 in Salina, Kansas to Wilbur and Betty (Treffinger) Bonneville. Steve attended grade school at St. James Catholic School in Duluth and high school in Esko. In 1962 Steve entered the Army an infantryman serving with the 101st Airborne Division, making many "jumps" as a paratrooper. After leaving active duty he held a number of jobs while serving part-time in the National Guard. He returned to active duty in 1977 when he entered the Minnesota Army National Guard AGR program. He held leadership positions in logistics and supply while posted to units in Hibbing, Duluth, and St. Paul. He completed numerous military schools and training courses, receiving frequent commendation for excellence. In 1993 he completed the capstone of military education at the U.S. Army Sergeants Major Academy in Fort Bliss, Texas. In 2002 he retired as a First Sergeant. Recognizing his long and honorable service to the Nation, and to the Minnesota National Guard, he was promoted by the State of Minnesota to Brevet Sergeant Major in January 2006. After retirement Steve worked for CACI Inc. in Washington D.C. as a military research analyst which allowed him to continue working closely with the National Guard Bureau at the Pentagon. When he had opportunity Steve enjoyed hunting and fishing with friends and family all over the United States and Canada. He also enjoyed renovating his cabin, where he spent a lot of time with his children and grandchildren. Steve was preceded in death by his father, Wilbur and his nephew, Michael. He is survived by his former wife, Susan Bonneville of Oakdale; daughters, Teresa (Glen) Mueller of Farmington, Raquel Juetten of Stillwater, Renee (Ken) Neumann of Lake Elmo; sons, Robert and Thomas, both of Maplewood, and David of Denver, CO; his mother, Betty Bonneville of Cloquet; five grandchildren, Jessica, DeAnna, Jeromie, Daphne and Nicole; brothers, Michael (Helga) of Hopewell, VA, Gary (Susan) of Chisholm, Phillip (Toni) of Champlin, Lucian Paul "Buddy" (Pam) of Brandon, FL; sisters, Yvonne (Jerry) Hilton of Two Harbors, Susan (Sam) Evans of Waverly, IA, Deborah Bonneville of Duluth, and Mary (Brett) Zinmer of Maple, WI, and numerous nieces and nephews. Funeral services were held on Thursday, March 2, 2006 in Queen of Peace Catholic Church in Cloquet. Military honors were accorded by the Cloquet Combined Honor Guard. Entombment was in Sunrise Memorial Park Cemetery in Hermantown.
