Ann Amelia Niemi
September 21st, 1917 - November 13th, 2004
Ann Amelia Niemi, 87 of Scanlon died Saturday, November 13, 2004 in her home. She was born September 21, 1917 in Kettle River to Joseph and Mary Sodervick. She married Theodore Niemi on August 6, 1935. Shortly after their marriage, they moved to Oregon. In 1945, Ann returned to the Brookston area. In 1961 she moved to Scanlon. Ann worked as a Nurse's Aide at Nopeming and the Carlton Nursing Homes. After her retirement in 1979, she did private home health care. In 1982 at the age of 65, Ann earned her GED. She enjoyed reading, going for walks, cooking, baking, and traveling. Ann was preceded in death by her husband, Theodore in 1988; two brothers, Donald and Onni Sodervick; and two sisters, Esther Sodervick and Mae Rhodes. She is survived by three daughters, Marie (John) Hunt of Cloquet, Joan Sell of Duluth, and Janice (Jerry) Siedlecki of Esko; two sons, Lawrence (Phyllis) Niemi of Overland Park, Kansas and Tom Niemi of Cloquet; sister, Helen Salli of Cloquet; and brother, Art (Helen) Sodervick of Astoria, Oregon; nine grandchildren and five great grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews. Ann's family would like to thank Dr. Mark Plachta; his nurses, Vicki and Lisa; and St. Luke's Hospice for their wonderful and compassionate care. At Ann's request there will be no services at this time. Private family services will be held at a later date. Arrangements entrusted to Northland Funeral Home in Cloquet.
