Ruth Leona Swenson: Obituary. July 2024

Ruth Leona Swenson was born on June 9,1935 to Thomas A. and Pauleen M. Ross (nee Barklow) in Luverne, Minnesota and died peacefully on July 4, 2024, in Longmont, Colorado. Ruth spent many of her formative years in Eveleth, MN and grew up with one sister and 10 full and half-brothers. Ruth completed registered nurse training at St. Luke’s Hospital in Duluth, MN. She married Floyd J. Swenson in 1956 and they had three children. In her adult years, Ruth lived in several parts of Minnesota and in California, Arizona, and Colorado. She was very devoted to raising her three children. After her children were grown, she worked with young pregnant women and provided in home care to older adults whose families greatly appreciated the companionship and dedicated care she provided to their loved ones. Ruth remained close to several nursing school classmates throughout her life and formed close friendships wherever she lived. Ruth also valued her Christian faith. Her family will always remember her as fiercely independent!

Ruth is survived by her three children: Carolyn Swenson in Denver, CO; Patricia Swenson Harms (Greg Harms) in Lyons, CO; and Christopher Swenson (Kristy Heim) in San Francisco, CA. She is also survived by four grandchildren: Aaron Harms (Victoria), Graham Harms (Christlynn), Audrey Swenson Heim, and Peter Swenson Heim; and two great-grandchildren: Ander Harms and Kieran Harms. Ruth is also survived by two brothers: Ronald Ross and Loren Ross, both of Oregon, and many nieces, nephews and friends. Ruth always especially loved the natural beauty of northern Minnesota. She will be greatly missed by her family and friends.
