Rosemary Houck, was born at home
June 3, 1930, in the small midwestern farming town of Daykin, Nebraska.
Rosemary’s two older sisters were married
and had children before she was born to
a very surprised Mother and Father. Rosemary was especially fond of her father. She would spend long hours in conversation with him while astride th
plow horse. One particularly snowy
the children became trapped at
school. Rosemary’s father hooked the
horse to their wagon and plowed through the snow to bring her and a number or other children to their homes.
After graduating from High School in Daykin, Rosemary left her home town with her niece and life long friend Ruth Houser to attended the National Business Institute of Lincoln, Nebraska. Both Graduated with certificates of Secretarial Studies during March 1949. Rosemary’s life long pursuit for knowledge motivated her to attended classes at Pikes Peak Community College graduating in
June 1978 with an Associate’s degree in Liberal Arts. Being an avid reader Rosemary was well versed in a plethora of subjects including history, archaeology, genealogy, space, animals, gardening and flowers.
Rosemary’s wanderlust motivated her
to travel to many exotic destinations.
That lust took her from Hawaii to Scotland, France, Germany, Spain, Italy,
Switzerland, Czechoslovakia, Ireland
and numerous domestic places.
Her interest in genealogy set her on a voyage to discover her ancestors. Finding that a fourth Great grandfather had helped our country win its independence in the revolutionary war qualified her to join the Daughters of the American Revolution in March 2017.
While in Lincoln, Rosemary attended a
picnic with friends where she met
Alfred H. Fritz. The two quickly fell in love and were married in April 1949. Anxious to start a new family Rosemary and Alfred had two children, Michael and Kathleen. The family moved from Lincoln to Cheyenne Wyoming in the spring of 1955 where they were co owner / operators of the Geyser Laundry with Alfred’s father. The laundry was destroyed by fire in 1960 and in 1964 the family moved to Colorado Springs. When her children were older, Rosemary worked for Albertsons grocery stores where she retired with pension after twelve years. Not to be idle she worked for school district 11’s lunch cafeterias then at University of Colorado Colorado Springs in the book store.
