Terry Lee Hewitt Sr.

Terry Lee Hewitt Sr. completed his life’s journey on July 27, 2024, after a short illness. Terry was born to Edward and Inez (Jones) Hewitt in Concord, North Carolina. The family moved to Savannah, Georgia when he was 12 and operated a motel, before moving to Orlando, where he was a member of the first graduating class at Oak Ridge High School. After graduation, Terry enlisted in the Air Force, where he proudly served from 1962-1965, including being a part of the Air Force Contingency for President John F. Kennedy’s funeral. 

After completing his service, Terry moved to Ocala and embarked on a successful career in sales. He worked with Liberty National Insurance, Ocala Ford Motors, Blount Volkswagen, Ocala Toyota, Palm Cadillac, and Caviness Buick, before relocating to Deltona in 1989. While in Deltona, he worked for Courtesy Buick, before returning to Ocala in 2000. Terry continued to work at Ashley Furniture, up until his retirement in 2007. 

Terry is survived by his wife of 35 years, Cherry; son Terry Hewitt Jr,; daughter Bobbie McAteer (Ken); stepdaughter Amanda Sapp; grandsons Bradley Baldus (Jessica) and Devin Yeomans; granddaughter Skyler Smith; brother Eddie Hewitt (Christine) and sister Donna Brigerman. 

Terry was preceded in death by parents Edward and Inez Hewitt and stepson Christopher Sapp. 

Terry always enjoyed speaking with others and never met a stranger. He especially enjoyed spending time with his youngest grandchildren, Skyler and Devin, and making sure that they were able to participate in the things they most enjoyed. 

The memorial service for Terry Lee Hewitt Sr. of Ocala, Florida will be held at Hiers-Baxley Funeral Home, at 910 E. Silver Springs Blvd Ocala, FL 34470 on Sunday, August 4, 2024, at 2:00 pm. His final resting place will be at the Florida National Cemetery in Bushnell.
