Betty Lou Simpson
July 6th, 1935 - August 5th, 2024
In Loving Memory of Betty Lou Simpson
Betty Lou Simpson, of Lake Hamilton, FL passed away peacefully in her home surrounded by her family on August 5, 2024 at the age of 89. She joins her husband Walter Simpson, Jr. who preceded her in death in 2004. She was born July 6, 1935 in Fola, West Virginia to Andrew Jackson Brown and Martha Jane (Fitzwater) Brown.
As a young girl growing up in the mountains, she loved school, singing in the choir and playing basketball and volleyball. She helped on the farm and loved to ride her family's Clydesdale.
She was always proud of the education all her children and grandchildren received. After years of working as a grocer, she owned a small trucking business with her husband and traveled all over the country for 22 years. Whether it was “on the road” with Walter or vacationing with her kids and grandkids, she loved to experience new places. Anywhere she went, a cruise ship in the Bahamas or the waiting room of a doctor's office, Betty made a friend. She was a lighthearted soul who loved to strike up a conversation with anyone by sharing a witty joke.
Betty loved her family and dear friends most of all. She loved going to her kids’ and grandkids’ sports games, dance recitals, and award ceremonies. She was thoughtful, caring, and fiercely protective of those she loved.
She is survived by her five children Debra Bloethner (Craig), Mickey Simpson (Lisa), Stephany Lewis (Danny), Jimmy Simpson (Mary), and Jackie Hoverkamp (Christopher), her 18 grandchildren, a growing number of great grandchildren, and many extended family who loved her.
Visitation will be held on Friday, August 9, 2024 at Oak Ridge Funeral Care in Haines City, FL beginning at 12:00 pm with services to follow at 1 o'clock. Final resting place will be at Forest Hill Cemetery in Haines City, FL.
