Janet Kay Vore
March 12th, 1952 - September 3rd, 2024
Janet Kay Vore of Colorado Springs, CO passed away at her home on September 3, 2024 in Colorado Springs. She was born on March 12, 1952 to Harold Gene and Wilma Jean Spelbring in Herrin, IL.
Janet started her school days at Southside Elementary School in Herrin, IL. The family moved to Colorado Springs, CO in July 1964. Janet attended West Jr High and East Jr High in Colorado Springs and graduated from William Mitchel High School in 1970. She pursued various college courses in accounting, business, music, and pursued a degree in Music Therapy.
Janet married Paul Marvin Vore on February 29, 1972 and they enjoyed making their home in Colorado Springs and in Denver but found this bliss was ending and they divorced in 1977. Paul made his way to his much-loved Washington state. Janet remained in Colorado Springs and was married in the 1980s to Keith Gates and then a few years later to David Mitchell. Janet found herself in a state that lead her to alcoholism. She did conquer that addiction and maintained a life of sobriety with the help of her Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ. She reconciled her beliefs from the AA model and her upbringing in the Nazarene Church and found a fulfilled life of faith. Janet would want you to know this and helped many others in their struggles.
Paul and Janet reunited their lives in 1995 after both of them had come to their faith and Janet moved to Gig Harbor, WA. Her world came full-circle in remarrying her high school sweetheart. They both found the northwest to be their favorite place to be. Janet loved the soft Seattle rain and the beautiful lush green trees, and the ocean. Following Paul’s passing Janet remained in Washington for a few more years, returning to Colorado Springs in 1999 where she provided companionship to her mother until Wilma’s death in 2012.
Janet was a very gifted musician; both vocally and in piano. In her high school years, she participated in annual Colorado Nazarene District Teen Talent contests and won many first-place ribbons for vocal performance. She was selected for the Colorado All-State Choir, the Colorado District Nazarene Teen Ambassadors, Youth for Christ Teen Tones (Colorado Springs). Janet was also in the Miss Colorado Teen Pageant with a vocal performance. In her time in WA, she was in Community College Choirs in both Tacoma and Bellview WA. Janet served in several churches as pianist in Colorado and in Washington.
Janet worked at Memorial Hospital and Penrose Hospital in the Business Offices as a Patient Account Representative and also worked at a Curves location in Colorado Springs.
Janet was preceded in death by her father, Gene Spelbring; mother, Wilma Spelbring; sister, Beverly Trusty; brother, Gene Spelbring Jr; Robert Rotz (Deby), brother-in-law; and husband, Paul M. Vore. Janet is survived by her sister, Deby Kenyon (Wes) of Colorado Springs; brother-in-law, Mark Trusty of Salina, KS; niece, Amanda Murphy (Mike) and their children, Ariana Mangum, Donavyn and Braelynn Murphy of Pearland, TX. She is survived by many cousins, aunts and uncles and some have preceded her in death. One aunt that has been a “sister” to Janet survives her, Mary “Susie” Scott from Loveland, CO.
Janet’s Celebration of Life Service will be held on September 11, 2024 at 2:00 PM in Colorado Springs at the Springs First Church of the Nazarene (4120 E. Fountain Blvd.). Memorial contributions can be made to Springs First Church of the Nazarene.
