Patsy Ruth McEntire
September 21st, 1935 - September 4th, 2024
In Loving Memory
Patsy Ruth McEntire, 88, of Columbia, passed away on Wednesday, September 4, 2024, at Laurel Crest Retirement Community in West Columbia, South Carolina.
Patsy was born in Lake City, South Carolina on September 21, 1935. She was the first-born child of Rufus Claude McEntire and Connie Ruth McEntire. The family moved to Columbia when Patsy was a young child, where she attended Richland One Schools and graduated from Dreher High School in 1953.
After attending the University of South Carolina, she began working at Southern Bell. Her dream was to be a Southern Bell manager. She was also active in the Telephone Pioneers. After a thirty-year career, she retired from AT&T and quickly decided she enjoyed working so much that she started her second career at R.C. McEntire & Co (McEntire Produce).
Patsy just liked everyone and made many friends. She never had a discouraging day or word. Patsy was a beautiful lady with impeccable style who loved fashion design and dancing, especially at Ocean Drive. She had a special place in her heart for animals and enjoyed birdwatching and dogs. She especially loved her dogs, who frequently traveled with her on errands and trips.
The family wants to thank the staff at Laurel Crest who showed Patsy much love and care in her final months.
Patsy is survived by her brothers, R.C. “Buddy” McEntire Jr. (Pam), and R.D. “Bobby” McEntire and sisters, Linda McEntire Davis and Cheryl McEntire Coker (Steve).
A private graveside service was held by the family.
