Russell A. Hardesty, age 73, of Osprey, Florida, formerly from Annapolis, Maryland, passed away September 11, 2024, appropriate for such a patriot. He was born in Washington, D.C., on November 16, 1950, son of the late Calvert and Margaret Hardesty and brother to the late Judy Repass. He is survived by his sister Sandra E. Burch, his wife Tamara L. Morton and was a loving father to Jason A. Morton, Drew Gellerson, Heather Crespo and granddaughter Alea Crespo. He joined the Army at 17 years old. He received the National defense medal, sharpshooter badge, and parachute badge, with honorable discharge. Rusty was most proud of his work as a member of The Great American High Dive Team. He traveled throughout the United States as well as abroad. He was the star performer as lead stuntman, high diver, in addition to the main attraction, known as the human torch fire diver. (As shown above) After 20 plus years of this endeavor, he continued his work with fire and water with the Damex Corporation fire and water restoration for an additional 20 years. He was a wonderful carpenter and always willing to help. His most known expression was” Come on man”. Rusty was all about diving, swimming, boating, kayaking, jet skiing, motorcycle riding and shopping for that best deal. He was generous to a fault! A true legend and inspiration to all, with a heart of gold who stood for what he believed in. We will truly miss him. Services will be held on Monday Sept 23,2024, at the Farley funeral home, 265 S. Nokomis Ave., Venice, Florida from 11:00 to 1:00. Followed by a burial ceremony at the Sarasota National Cemetery, (veterans cemetery) 9810 State Rd 72, Sarasota , Florida 34242.
