Farley Funeral Homes and Crematory - Venice
Jerry Wayne Wagner
February 23rd, 1945 - October 7th, 2024
Jerry Wayne Wagner passed away on October 7, 2024, in Sarasota, Florida. Jerry was the eldest son of the late Charles and Mildred Wagner, born on February 23, 1945, in Decatur, Indiana. He learned the accordion at a very young age, at the desire of his mother, which led to a lifetime passion for music. Jerry studied music at Huntington University before joining a gospel group, The Conveyors Quartet, to pursue a career in music. Jerry married Kathleen (Kathy) Grace (Yoder) Wagner on August 7, 1965, and had three daughters, Tina, Vicki, and Angela. Jerry left The Conveyors Quarter in 1971, after Jerry and Kathy started having children, to launch a musical group of their own, The Wagners. Throughout their musical ministry, The Wagners ministered in music throughout North America and abroad for over four decades, producing eight studio recordings and albums, writing countless songs, and performing on live television, broadcast all throughout Asia. Jerry was a minister and entrepreneur, developing many businesses and church-plants all during the course of his life. He was most passionate about worship and sharing the gospel of Jesus Christ and was best known for leading worship in small groups and churches with his guitar. Kathy passed away in 2010 after Jerry and Kathy celebrated 45 years together in marriage.
Jerry met his second wife, Doshia Porta Wagner, in 2011, instantly fell in love, and they married on May 7, 2011. Doshia is a very successful Interior Designer, an established entrepreneur, and has a profound love for ministry, so together they started two successful businesses, traveled, enjoyed family, and ministered in churches during the course of their marriage. Jerry and Doshia celebrated over 13 years of marriage before a diagnosis of cancer quickly appeared, and Jerry was taken away to be with the Lord.
Jerry was a loving and caring man devoted to God and his family. Jerry is preceded in death by his parents, Charles and Mildred Wagner, and many uncles, aunts, and cousins. He is survived by his close family: Wife, Doshia Wagner; three daughters, Tina (Walter) Nelson, Vicki (Kevin) Lyons, Angela (Brent) Carver; 9 grandchildren; and two brothers, Kenny (Chris) Wagner and Russell (Diana) Wagner. A Celebration of Life Service for Jerry Wagner will be held on Thursday, October 24, 2024, at 3 pm at Restoration Church of Sarasota, 5614 Richardson Road, Sarasota, FL 34232. After the service, the family invites everyone to join them for a buffet-style reception, at their own expense, at Der Dutchman Restaurant, 3713 Bahia Vista Road, Sarasota, FL 34232.
