Jerome Jacob Lebkuecher March 16, 1940 – October 18, 2024 Melbourne, FL
It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of Jerome “Jerry” Jacob Lebkuecher, who departed this life on October 18, 2024, at the age of 84. After a courageous two-year battle with cancer, he peacefully passed away, surrounded by the love and support of his family. Jerry was born on March 16, 1940, in Rockford, Illinois; he was the son of Jacob and Minnie Lebkuecher. Jerry was married to his beloved wife, Wilma (Pollard) Lebkuecher, for an extraordinary 59 years. Their love story was one of deep admiration and unwavering commitment, a rare bond that inspired all who knew them.
Jerry took immense pride in his family, cherishing his three children, six grandchildren, and one great granddaughter. All who were a source of joy and fulfillment throughout his life. His dedication to his wife and children was evident in every moment they shared, and he instilled in them the value of love, kindness, and perseverance. Jerry’s legacy of love will live on through his family, who will forever carry the warmth of his spirit in their hearts.
Jerry is survived by his loving children: Eric (Alicia) Lebkuecher of W. Melbourne, FL; Kirsten (Jamie) Fleming of Eagle River, WI; and Krystal (Craig) Hay of Byron, IL. Grandchildren: Hans Johnson of Conway, SC; Alexandria Eddy of Sterling, IL; Bryce Eddy of Merritt Island, FL; Olivia Eddy of Eagle River, WI; Hannah Lebkuecher of W. Melbourne, FL; and Jacob Lebkuecher of W. Melbourne, FL. Great granddaughter Lennon McCully of Sterling, IL. He is preceded in death by his mother and father, several cousins, aunts, and uncles.
Jerry Lebkuecher was known for his love of auto racing. He thoroughly enjoyed the thrill of Formula One, Indy, and NASCAR racing. He lived for the roar of a loud engine and tinkering around with anything that had wheels. A lifelong Chicago Bears and Cubs fan, even through the tough years of disappointment, he always supported his home team. Sailing and the sea life have always been among his favorite pursuits. Jerry worked many years at Swift, Del Monte, and retired from Kraft Foods in Rochelle, July 2002. Jerry proudly served his country as an Army Veteran in the US Signal Corps.
In his life, he exemplified a profound love for animals, particularly his cherished granddogs. Thumper and Nellie held a special place in his heart, bringing joy and a sparkle to his eyes that illuminated even the darkest days.
There will be a private service to celebrate Jerome Lebkuecher’s life, which will take place at a later time. In lieu of flowers and donations, please make them to your local animal shelter in Jerry’s name. A special thanks to VITAS Healthcare for their grace and help.
