Gregory Charles Bettice
January 27th, 1954 - November 15th, 2024
"Dance like no one is watching, and live like it is heaven on earth".
Gregory Bettice January 27, 1954 - November 15, 2024
Gregory Charles Bettice, 70, of Melbourne, Florida passed away on November 15, 2024 at The Fountains due to complications from cancer. Born on January 27, 1954 in Batesville, Indiana, he was the son of Daniel and Mary (Moeller) Bettice. He married Patricia (Sheline) on October 10, 1992 in Massillon, Ohio.
He was a 1972 graduate of Batesville High School and a 1976 graduate of Rose-Hulman Institute of Technology, where he studied electrical engineering. He later went on to earn his Masters degree from the University of Michigan. His interest in electrical engineering was sparked at a young age, when he would deconstruct and reconstruct any electrical device he could get his hands on. He was passionate about technology and innovation, and worked as an electrical engineer throughout his career, recently retiring form the Harris Corporation. He felt most at ease with others who shared his interest in engineering, and served as the Chapter Chairman of the Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers for many years, where he was able to to share his interests with others in his community.
Greg was happiest on the ballroom dance floor. He and Pat competed regularly for many years, and one of his most cherished memories was placing first in a major competition. He shined at the weddings of each of his nieces, sharing a special ballroom dance with each at their receptions, where he was able to pass on some of his dance moves. Greg also loved being part of a team, and while he wasn’t an active athlete, he was the sports manager for the Football, Basketball, and Track teams throughout high school. As a result, he became a critical member of each team and was one of the few students to earn nine varsity letters. He had many interests throughout his life, but particularly loved traveling to National Parks with his extended family, going on cruises with his wife, trying his hand at creative writing, and finishing a challenging puzzle—a favorite pastime he shared with his mother, Mary.
Greg will be missed by his wife Pat, mother Mary Bettice, sister Danine (Tom) Gier, brother Mike (Lorie) Bettice, step-daughter Sherri (Fred) Enoch, nephew Chris Gier, nieces Holly Enneking, Anna Pfaehler, and Kristen Hamby, a number of treasured cousins and many dear friends.
Greg was preceded in death by his father, Daniel.
Services will be held at Saint Timothy’s Church on November 22nd at 11:00am.
In lieu of flowers donations can be made to the food pantry of your choice.
