ALTON L. COURTNEY (1935-2024)
Alton Lee (“Al”) Courtney, 89, a retired airline pilot and USAF veteran, was cleared for takeoff for the last time on Veterans Day, November 11, for his final flight….to celestial eternity.
Al was preceded in death by his wife of 52 years, Bebe Cabaniss Courtney in 2010, and his son, Mark, in 2009.
He is survived by his dear companion, JoAnn Cooper. Al’s children are Preston (Katrina), Bryce, and Sheree; and his eight grandchildren include Sims, Bryant, Derek, Kyle, Sean, Morgan, Bobby and Katie. He also leaves nine great grandchildren and another expected soon.
Captain Al’s lifetime career was as a pilot. He served in the US Air Force/USAF Reserve for 20 years, and 27 years with Eastern Airlines, Kiwi Airlines, and American Eagle Airlines.
Al enjoyed watching his grandchildren and great grandchildren compete in various sports; he attended many of their games. He also enjoyed golfing, boating, fishing, traveling, playing cards, and an occasional trip to the casino.
