Robert Poinsett

Winter Haven- Robert (Bob) Philip Poinsett, age 92, passed away peacefully on December 13, 2024, at Astoria Assisted Living in Winter Haven, Florida. Many thanks to Helping Hand Nursing Services caregivers and his Good Shepherd Hospice Team for their compassionate attention. His parents were Horace William and Clara Tomkowiak/Thomas Poinsett. His loving wife, Helen Treadaway Huey Poinsett, passed away just 6 months before him on May 31, 2024, at Astoria Assisted Living where they lived together for 7 years.

Robert grew up in Philadelphia, PA. He received a bachelor’s degree in Chemistry from the University of Miami, where he met his first wife, Louise Fitzgerald (divorced, 1975). He served in the US Army for 3 years in Baumholder, Germany. After returning stateside, he took a job as an Inspector in the Department of Agriculture in the citrus industry in central Florida, where he worked for 3 decades. During the tax season, he had a side business as a tax preparer for many years.

After a long courtship with his second wife, Helen, they married in 1988 and spent many years together traveling and having many magical moments at Disney World with their annual Disney passes. Robert is survived by 2 daughters, 2 stepdaughters, 1 stepson, many grandchildren, and many great-grandchildren. We will all miss his smiles and jokes.
