Marlene Myrtle Motley
March 29th, 1931 - December 26th, 2024
Marlene Owen Motley, 93, of Madison Heights, peacefully passed into the loving arms of her Savior on Thursday, December 26, 2024.
Born March 29, 1931 in Pittsylvania County, VA, she was the daughter of the late Issac Samuel Owen and Myrtle Watson Owen. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband Aubrey Derald Motley, her daughter Carolyn Ann Motley Karcher, and brothers Billy Owen, J.T Owen, and Dean Owen. She is survived by her daughter Abby Jean Thompson and her husband, Jim; her son Dudley Lee Motley; her step-daughter Sallie Ingram and her husband, Bob Wade; eight grandchildren; and 16 great-grandchildren.
As an overflow of her love for her Savior, Marlene dedicated her life to selflessly loving and serving others, especially her family who will miss her deeply. She was also a long time member of Elon Baptist Church and enjoyed building relationships and serving others alongside the women from her Sunday School Class and the Women’s Missionary Union.
In particular, her family will never forget her strong sense of family and loyalty, her smile and laughter, her playing on the floor with her great-grandchildren even into her 90s, her love of puzzles, her teaching her grandchildren and great grandchildren to sew stuffed bears and making her special popcorn and snacks. She supported her family in both tough and good times, for which we are eternally grateful.
Funeral services will be held at Elon Baptist Church on Monday, December 30, 2024 at 10:30 am, immediately followed by burial at Hillcrest Cemetery in Chatham, VA. The family will receive friends at the church at 10:00 am just prior to the service.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Elon Baptist Church, 145 Younger Dr., Madison Heights, VA 24572.
Diuguid Funeral Service, Timberlake Road Chapel, 434-385-8900, is serving the family. On-line condolences may be sent to www.diuguidfuneralservice.com
