"And God will wipe away every tear from their eyes; there shall be no more death, nor sorrow, nor pain any more." Revelation 21:4
Betty Jean (Brown) Clewell, the only child born to Walter and Linnie Brown of Danville, VA, made her grand entrance on July 13, 1941, with blue eyes and a beautiful head of red hair that she wore with immense pride until the end. In 1960, while in Georgia, Betty met and married David L. Clewell. Together, they shared many adventures during his years serving in the U.S.A.F., moving to Air Force bases in Virginia, Mississippi, Florida, Maine, Illinois, Montana, Washington, New York, Nebraska, and Japan before settling down in Arizona in 1980.
Betty worked in the education system before retiring after many years as the Elementary Religious Education Coordinator and Wedding Hostess at St. Timothy Catholic Church. A gifted storyteller, Betty will be remembered for overseeing children’s liturgies, leading countless children and their families through sacramental preparation, and helping many nervous brides down the aisle.
In 2007, Betty and Dave joined the Praise and Worship Center, where Betty participated in Women’s Ministry and coordinated the library. Betty enjoyed history and exploring historical sites with her children and grandchildren, especially delving into her Irish roots, including an unforgettable trip of a lifetime to Ireland. A multifaceted artisan, Betty’s friends and family will forever cherish the hand-crafted treasures she made with love and care over the years as she mastered her crafting skills.
On December 21, 2024, Betty entered the loving arms of her Savior Jesus Christ. She is survived by her devoted husband of 64 years, David L. Clewell, daughter Terri Mudd (Jeff) of WA State, daughter Diane Scott (Jeff) of CO, and son David S. Clewell (Ali Mason) of AZ, as well as local “like a daughter” Jenny Cook (Eddie). She was “Grammy” to her beloved grandchildren: Amanda Scott (Joey Depa), Brittney Gross, Christopher Mudd, Katie Caton (Sam), Anna Sundstrom (Josh), and Zachary Scott (William Bower). Her crown jewels were her great-grandchildren: Logan and Nolan Gross; Holly, Emma, and Mandy Caton; Cayden, Noa, Ellie, and Journey Depa; and Ian Sundstrom.
Services will be held at 10:30 am on Friday, January 31, 2025.
