Rita Moore Cannon
June 4th, 1933 - December 18th, 2024
Rita Moore Cannon, born on June 4, 1933, in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, passed away peacefully on December 18, 2024, in Satellite Beach, Florida, surrounded by her children. She was the beloved daughter of Russell and Jennie Moore and a devoted sister to James Moore and the late Russell Moore.
In 1955, Rita married Joseph P. Cannon Sr., with whom she shared a loving marriage until his passing in 2017. Rita is survived by her children: Mark Cannon (Maureen), Denise Fearson (Doug), and Michael Cannon (Gretchen); She was predeceased by her husband Joe, her daughter Patricia Hudson (Dave), her son Joseph P. Cannon Jr. (Peggy). Her legacy lives on through her 16 grandchildren, 24 great-grandchildren, and numerous nieces and nephews. She also shared a special bond with her sweet dog, Walter.
Rita grew up in Philadelphia Pennsylvania and attended Little Flower Catholic School, remaining a dedicated alumna throughout her life. She later settled in Fairfax, Virginia where she and her husband Joe raised their family. Alongside her husband, Rita contributed to the success of their business ventures, demonstrating a strong work ethic and partnership. They were active members of the Capital Triumph Register, where she found joy in planning and hosting events that brought people together and formed lasting friendships. In retirement, Rita embraced life’s adventures by traveling for 15 years with Joe in their motor home. A lifelong reader, Rita’s love of books enriched her travel and deepened her understanding of the world.
In her later years, Rita retired to Satellite Beach, Florida, where she enjoyed the serenity of her oceanfront home and hosting friends and family. She was joined by her daughter Denise, with whom she shared laughter, travels, and treasured moments.
She had a gift for connecting with people, always eager to hear their stories and share their lives. She will be remembered for her kindness, generosity and zest for life. Her memory will continue to bring comfort to all who knew her.
Funeral arrangements have been made for Saturday, January 11, 2025, at St Mark’s Catholic Church in Vienna, Virginia beginning at 11:00 am. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the American Lung Association.
