Ronald E. McMillin, 81 of Ocala, Florida passed away unexpectedly on Wednesday, January 1, 2025, at HCA Florida Ocala Hospital. Ron was born in Indianapolis, Indiana and graduated from Turkey Run High School. He served two years in the United States Army stationed at Fort Sill Oklahoma. He attended the University of Florida and received a Bachelor of Science degree in Physical Education. Ron spent over 20 years in the Marion County School System teaching physical education at Fessenden Elementary. He also coached men’s and women’s basketball at Vanguard, CFCC and at St. John Lutheran School. Over the years he worked at many nationally known basketball camps throughout the United States.
Ron was dedicated to the education of all children, touching many lives over the years. Everyone who knew him will remember his grit and special love for those whose lives he touched.
He was a member of First Baptist Church of Ocala. He also belonged to the Ocala Quarterback Club and the Marion County Gator Tip Off Club. Ron enjoyed attending Gator sporting events, traveling (especially cruising), golf and reading. He was an avid sports fan.
Ron was preceded in death by his daughter, Lisa Marie Dobbs, brother Marvin McMillin, and parents Royal and Fern McMillin.
Ron is survived by his wife of 49 years Mary McMillin, daughter Myla Renee Jones of Tucson, AZ, and nieces and nephew- Mary Pearson, Julie Jerolaman. Thom McMillin, Amy Noegel. Jenny McMillin and many cherished friends. Ron’ presence will be deeply missed by family, friends and all who knew him.
A celebration of life will be held at First Baptist Church of Ocala on Friday, January 10th, at 2 PM.
