December 04, 1923 March 22, 2021 Rose Marie (Rubino) Shelton was born in her SE Portland childhood home December 04, 1923. She was the second of three children; older brother, Anthony and younger sister, Mary completed the family of Joseph and Mary (Cacicia) Rubino. She attended Abernethy Elementary and graduated from Commerce (now Cleveland) high school in 1942. In March, 1946, she married Thomas (Cal) Hansen; they had one child, Cheri, in 1948. They later divorced. Her second marriage to Ralph E. Shelton was in September, 1958. He died in March, 2000. High end womens' retail was her career choice spanning decades. Mr. Forrest Berg promoted her to credit manager, a position she held for many years. She was a role model for women of all ages and a respected, active member of the Portland business community. She opened many doors for women enabling them to succeed in business, most notably establishing credit in their names without need of a husband or co-signer. Music and dancing were her passions. She had a pitch perfect alto voice and could harmonize with anyone. Many dance floors cleared to watch her dance. She never said no to playing cards, "I Buy" being her favorite, Keno or hot, black coffee. She lost her battle with dementia at age 97 on March 22, 2021. We all miss her high energy and spirited soul. Many thanks to the staff at Tabor Crest II Memory Care facility and Providence Hospice for watching over her and caring for her with respect and care. Survivors include her daughter, Cheri (Michael) Coffman and stepson John Shelton. Three grandchildren: Kevin Alexander, step granddaughter, Jamyca Coffman and step grandson, Ryan Coffman. Four great grandchildren: Henry and Grantland Alexander, step great granddaughter, Kaiya Coffman and step great grandson Riley Coffman. Arrangements by Wilhelm's Portland Memorial Funeral Home. Due to covid, a celebration of life/memorial will be held at a later date.

Wilhelm's Portland Memorial Funeral Home

At Wilhelm's Portland Memorial, we have a rich history dating back to 1901 when we became the first crematory west of the Mississippi River, known then as The Portland Cremation Association. Our historic chapel, marked by its cornerstone placed on February 5th, 1901, has stood the test of time. Today, our memorial site spans 8 stories, approximately 7 miles of corridors of beautifully preserved architecture, and the largest mausoleum on the west coast, spanning 2.5 city blocks....
