Mabel Applegate, a beacon of compassion and resilience, was born in New York and exhibited a passion for her family, community, and friends throughout her life.

Throughout her esteemed life, she dedicated herself to supporting the arts, numerous causes, mentoring family members, and friends. Her tireless efforts focused on positive reinforcement in people's lives, including her husband, sister, brother, and nieces. She extended herself to those who needed advice and a listening ear.

Mabel was a devoted wife, sister, aunt, and friend whose warmth and generosity touched the lives of all who crossed her path. She was a talented artist who created paintings expressing her love of nature and creativity and played the piano. She inspired others to find their dreams and embodied the spirit of selflessness and empathy. Mabel contributed to causes, including Ronald McDonald House, Doctors Without Borders, Wounded Warriors, and numerous other organizations.

Her greatest source of pride and joy was her husband Alfred, whom she had been married to for over 50 years. Her only sister, Doris, often said how blessed she was to have Mabel as a sister who helped her in times of need and took her for makeovers in NYC while raising a busy family of six.

Mabel had such social graces and entertained her and Alfred's families for years during Christmas and Thanksgiving. Deborah says she taught me to set a spectacular dinner table with fine China and linens. Mabel and Alfred were the first residents of the Arbors of Ocala and held numerous holiday events in the clubhouse to support the local neighbors celebrating the holiday.

Mabel left an impact and formed great relationships with her nieces, including Susan, Wanda, and Deborah. Wanda says she was a great surrogate mother, advisor, and therapist, and said, "Everyone should have an Aunt Mabel in their life." Deborah loved her sound advice and inspiring her in her life. Susan loved her friendship throughout their lives and will miss her Sunday phone calls. Mabel had great friends at the Arbors of Ocala, and we know how thankful she is to Bill for his devotion during the final chapter of her life. Bill said, "I have never experienced such a great friendship." We thank Heather and her husband for taking care of Mabel.

As we all grieve Mabel's loss, we will also celebrate her beautiful life—the chance to know her, love her, and remember what she would want for all of us.

I leave you with One of Mabel's favorite books

"The Purpose Driven Life," a few passages to ponder include:

People can find meaning in every moment of their lives by living purposefully

Life is preparation for eternity. We were not made to last forever, and God wants us to be with Him in Heaven

Mabel would want us to live purpose-driven lives and pursue our dreams, goals, and relationship with God. Mabel will be waiting in the wings, watching and cheering us on.

We will miss you and love you, Mabel
