Farley Funeral Homes and Crematory - Venice
William Albert Szkodzinski
March 5th, 1955 - January 18th, 2025
William Albert Szkodzinski, known to his family and friends as Bill, passed away peacefully on January 18, 2025, at the age of 69. Bill was a beloved husband, father, uncle, grandfather, brother, and friend, who leaves behind a legacy of love, laughter, and cherished memories.
Born on March 5, 1955, in Detroit, Michigan, Bill grew up with a deep sense of family and community. He spent much of his life in Michigan, before moving to Venice, Florida, in 2019. A proud and dedicated manufacturing engineer for General Motors, Bill worked for 44 years, bringing precision and integrity to everything he did. His work ethic and commitment to excellence were admired by all who worked with him.
While Bill’s professional accomplishments were many, it was his family that defined him. As a husband, he shared a life of love and partnership with his wife, Kathy, for 38 years. Together, they built a family that was the heart of Bill’s world.
Bill was especially proud of his role as "Papa" to his 10 grandchildren. Whether it was attending their sporting events, spoiling them with affection, or sharing quiet moments reading books or watching hockey, he loved being their grandfather. His grandchildren were his greatest joy, and his love for them was boundless.
For many years, Bill enjoyed weekends on Lake St. Clair aboard his beloved boat, Family Matters, where he cherished the company of his family and friends while taking in the peaceful beauty of the saltless water. He was also an avid golfer, enjoying weekly tee times with the “boys” at Sarasota National Golf Club.
A passionate sports fan and coach, Bill was a dedicated supporter of his sons’ hockey teams, both on and off the ice. He spent countless hours coaching, cheering, and offering advice; always striving to be a positive influence in their lives. His sons carried his love of sports and his encouragement of them throughout their lives.
Bill’s sense of humor, his generous heart, and his infectious laughter will be missed by all who knew him. He was a man of integrity, compassion, and kindness, who always put others first and made those around him feel valued.
Bill is survived by his loving wife, Kathy; his children, Mike (Tori) Szkodzinski of Green Bay, WI, Rob Szkodzinski of Seattle, WA, Billy (Jamie) Szkodzinski of South Lyon, MI, and Elizabeth (Nick) Mayenschein of Green Bay, WI; his 10 adoring grandchildren, Megan, Trevor, Travis, and Molly Szkodzinski, Cameron, Connor, and Corbin Szkodzinski, and Paul, Luke, and John Mayenschein; his sister, Karen (Gordon) Wesley of Milford, MI; and his brother, Richard Szkody (Sybil) of Detroit, MI.
A celebration of Bill's life will be held at a later date in both Florida and Michigan.
Bill will be deeply missed but never forgotten. His spirit lives on in the hearts of his family and friends and his legacy of love and kindness will continue to guide them.
