David L Howell
March 25th, 1964 - January 18th, 2025
David L. Howell concluded a life well lived and loved on January 18th, 2025, at the age of 60. He passed away peacefully, choosing to avoid hospice care so that he could celebrate his older brother Dexter’s birthday in person, rather than in spirit.
Born in Paducah, Kentucky, David was the youngest of six children to Buddy and Mary Lee Howell. As the baby of the family, he was cherished and spoiled by his four older sisters, who would often swoop in to rescue him whenever he found himself in trouble.
David graduated from high school in St. Augustine, Florida and, at the age of 17, enlisted in the U.S. Army. He served as a tanker, a role he truly loved, and he always took great pride in his military service. David often said he gave one ball to the military and the other to his beloved wife, Stephanie. David and Stephanie celebrated their 30th wedding anniversary in August 2024, a milestone marked by years of laughter, love, and happiness. Their bond was a true testament to the strength of their partnership.
David, affectionately known as "Ol' One Nut," never let the loss of his testicle hold him back. He refused to let it define him, and instead, he focused on what mattered most—building a loving family. His strength of character was evident in the way he gave his children love, guidance, and the same determination and humor that defined him throughout his life.
He is survived by his loving wife, Stephanie (Snyder) and children Brittany (Joe), Caitlynn (Joe), Denise (Alex), Drew (Lexi), and Jamie and cherished grandchildren. He is also survived by his sisters, Debbie, Diane (Sport), Susan (Michael), and Luann, who shared countless memories and moments of laughter with him throughout the years. David’s “arguably” favorite children—his adored fur babies Lucy, Sophie, and Millie—will also carry on his memory, along with a host of other family members and friends who were lucky to know him. He was preceded in death by Dexter “Buddy”, Mary Lee (Draffen), and brother Dexter.
A celebration of life for David will be held on Saturday, February 1st at 11 a.m. at Hiers-Baxley Funeral Services, located at 910 E Silver Springs Boulevard. A reception will follow at the home of Denise and Alex, where we will gather to reflect on the laughter, love, and incredible spirit that David brought to all our lives. The address for the reception will be provided on the day of the service.
