Daniel B. Smith III

Daniel B. Smith, III, passed away peacefully at the age of 85 in Florida. He was born in East Orange, New Jersey and lived most of his life in Chatham Boro, New Jersey and graduated from Chatham boro High School. He attended Rutgers University and while attending college he enjoyed working as the manager of the Rutgers University basketball team.

He led a life of service as an active volunteer firefighter for the Chatham Boro Fire Department for over 40 years and he acted as secretary for the department in his retirement years. He enjoyed driving a firetruck in the town’s annual Independence Day parade. He was also an active first responder with  the Chatham Boro Emergency Squad for over 20 years. Dan was a caring and compassionate people over the years.

Dan had a 40-year successful career as a Public Accountant with a small accounting firm in Summit, Dan had a 40-year successful career as a Public Accountant with a small accounting firm in Summit, time with family and friends spending time at the beach in Belmar, New Jersey and visiting family and making trips to the beach in Bradenton and Anna Maria Island, Florida. He had a love for dining out and trying new restaurants with his family and friends.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Daniel B. Smith, Jr. and Janet R. Smith. He is survived by his sisters, Carolyn Clark and Nancy Birkett (David) of Sun City Florida, 

son, Daniel B. Smith, IV of Rockaway, New Jersey, daughter, Karen Grip (Brian Grip) of Palm Bay, Florida, grandchildren, Michael Grip (Marissa), Amanda Smith, Alyssa

Smith and great granddaughter Kinsley Grip.

A Celebration of Life will be held February 21 at 10:30 a.m. at Ammen Family Cremation and Funeral Care, Palm Bay, Florida. The family has plans for another Celebration 

of Life in the coming months in New Jersey. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to Tunnel to Towers Foundation at t2t.org.
