Gerald "Mort" Richard Mortensen
March 24th, 1936 - January 15th, 2025
Gerald Richard Mortensen, 88, of Westminster, Colorado, passed away Wednesday, January 15th, 2025, at his home with his wife and family by his side.
A military service at Ft Logan National Cemetery and a Celebration of Life will be held later, details to come.
Gerald, known by many as Mort, was born March 24th, 1936, in Sanford, Colorado to Penn Bertrand and Bessie Florence (Warnock) Mortensen. Gerry grew up in Wheat Ridge, Colorado and went to Wheat Ridge High School and later moved to Longmont, Colorado where he graduated from Longmont High School in 1955. Gerry enlisted in the United States Marines in 1956. Upon his return from service, he married Elizabeth Anne Brewer (Beth) in 1959 and together they had five children Christy, Michael, Mitchell, Dina and Amy.
Gerry is survived by his wife of 66 years, Elizabeth (Beth) Mortensen; His children, Christy Matthes (Steve), Westminster, CO, Mike (Jennifer) Littleton, CO; Mitch (Elizabeth), Denver, CO; Dina Boss (Kevin) Westminster, CO; Amy Mortensen, Wheat Ridge, CO, his brother Larry Steven Mortensen (Sherry) of Lakewood, CO, ten grandchildren, and ten great grandchildren and many nieces, nephews and relatives. He was preceded in death by his parents, Penn and Bessie Mortensen, and eight siblings, 6 brothers and 2 sisters and his beloved and faithful dobie Milo.
Gerry moved with his family to Alma, Nebraska in the sixties and worked designing and building Lake ‘N’ Shore Campers. In the early seventies he had the opportunity to design, build and own a company in Killarney, Manitoba, Canada called Mancana Industries, where he built and sold Royal campers and 5th wheel trailers. In the late seventies he returned to Colorado and worked with his brother Marv’s company Continental Solar, building solar systems. Together they also built a solar car that was in a race across the states. Later he started his own HVAC business called North Metro Service Company, which he worked until retirement.
Gerry was larger than life and had many passions, he loved hunting, camping, woodworking, photography, and long drives in the country and the mountains. He loved his family and the large gatherings to celebrate holidays, birthdays, anniversaries or just getting together on weekends. Family was his first love. He loved to tell jokes, and stories of his childhood and early life. He enjoyed watching the Denver Broncos and the Colorado Rockies. He was a very proud patriot, a Marine through and through.
