In Loving Memory of Glenna Mae (Powers) McKivergan

It is with deep sorrow that we announce the passing of beloved wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, and friend, Glenna Mae (Powers) McKivergan, who passed away peacefully at home surrounded by her husband and children.

Born in Bakersfield, California, Glenna spent most of her early years in Southern California, where she met her soulmate, Jim McKivergan. By all accounts, it was love at first sight for Jim, and at fifth or sixth sight for Glenna. They married on November 19, 1966, and together they raised a brilliant and beautiful family. Glenna leaves behind her devoted husband of 58 years, Jim; her daughter Tawnee Baughman (Carl) and grandchildren Bethany Kirby (Alex), Jessica Safly (Jared), Lane Allen, Cora (Carlos), and Payton Baughman; her daughter Bridget Heneghan (Shaun) and grandchildren Connor (Catherine) and Máille (Jacob); and her son Michael McKivergan and grandchildren Aeden and Abigail—along with four great-grandchildren, Arie Baughman and Madeline, Alexis, and Rowan Kirby, and many nephews and nieces. She is preceded in death by her five siblings, Claudine Collom, Elmo, Daryl, Dale, and Joseph Powers, and her granddaughter Katlyn McKinley.

Her passions included spending time with family and friends, traveling the world, studying archaeology, solving murders, and collecting every type of skin cream ever produced. Her house abounds with crafts and keepsakes created by herself and every one of her children, grandchildren, great-grandchildren, and husband, as well as by countless stray children and adults who have been pulled into her warm and welcoming gravitational field over the decades.

She was, at various times, an expert tennis player, water skier, horseback rider, and bowler. She perfected the famous California Dip ™ and chicken enchiladas, and she is the reason her children know by heart every song recorded by Mac Davis and Tom Jones. She’s at least half the reason they all have a playful, sardonic sense of humor. In fact, she was laughing and making jokes until her final moments, and she never missed the opportunity to brighten someone’s day with an unexpected wisecrack. Glenna worked as a legal assistant, volunteered as a Guardian ad Litem, and freely dispensed advice and aid to anyone in need.

A memorial will be held to honor her life in early March (date and time TBA). In lieu of flowers, the family asks that donations be made to fund the release of miniature fainting goats at her memorial celebration.

Glenna Mae McKivergan will be deeply missed, but she will live on in the hearts of those who loved her. While at www.afterall.com, please take time to sign Glenna’s guestbook and share your favorite memory with her family.
