Farley Funeral Homes and Crematory - Venice
Patrick Burke
August 19th, 1950 - February 1st, 2025
Patrick Burke died peacefully at his home in Venice, FL on February 1, 2025. He was 74 years old. Born on August 19, 1950 in New York, NY, Patrick was the tenth of fourteen children of Elizabeth Kane and Thomas Burke. He grew up on the west side of Manhattan, in a largely Irish American neighborhood known as Hell’s Kitchen. A serious student and altar server in his youth, Patrick was a man of great faith and valor. He joined the Marine Corps during the time of the Vietnam War, and was honorably discharged. After his military service, Patrick returned to New York and became a paramedic at New York Hospital, where he met the love of his life, Janet Orabona. They were married on June 29, 1975 at the historic St. Patrick’s Cathedral. They had two children, Daniel and Guenevere. Daniel Burke is a Sargeant, Detective Division of the New York City Police Department and Guenevere Burke is an emergency physician at the George Washington University. Patrick was inimitable in his devotion to his wife, children and grandchildren, which he would demonstrate every day in acts of kindness and caring. Patrick built a career at Mutual of America, where he rose to become Senior Vice President. There, he was devoted to his clients, non-profit organizations, whom he helped tirelessly. Throughout his life, he was known for his generosity, selflessness and graciousness. His was a life of service, running the New York City marathon numerous times to raise money for charity and volunteering in every community where he lived, from the American Legion in Armonk, NY to the pension committee in Sandy Hook, CT and serving as Faithful Navigator of the Knights of Columbus in Venice, FL. He continued to serve as Faithful Navigator even after his fateful diagnosis of brain cancer. He also continued to demonstrate concern and care for others at every opportunity until the very last day of his life – rising to show respect for his treating physician, offering to hold doors, push wheelchairs, and walk with dear friends when his illness made it challenging to even stand. His indefatigable spirit inspired and heartened those around him. He is survived by his wife, Janet Burke, children, Daniel and Guenevere Burke, son-in-law, Peter Downey, and three grandchildren, Kiera, Mateo and Owen.
