June 25th, 1934 - January 30th, 2025
In Loving Memory of Eleonora Giovanna Sampognaro - June 25, 1934-January 30, 2025
Eleonora Sampognaro, born on June 25, 1934 in Trapani, Sicily, and passed away peacefully in her home, surrounded by her loving family on Thursday, January 30, 2025. She was a devoted mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, and friend whose kindness and generosity touched the hearts of everyone she met.
Eleonora is survived by her beloved children: Paul, Jerry, Maryann (Charles Taylor, son-in-law), and Catherine (Robert Dickenson, son-in-law); her cherished grandchildren: Bridgette, Sheridan, Mackenzie, and Joseph Jr; her step-grandchildren: Ethan, Braeden, and Cullen; her precious great-granddaughter: Isabella; and great-grandson: Roman; and her dear daughter-in-law, Tonyia. Her nephew, Mark Sampognaro and niece Sandra McDonald. She now rejoins her husband and son, Joseph, in eternal rest.
At the age of 42, Eleonora faced one of the greatest challenges of her life when she lost her husband while raising a set of two-year-old twins and her three boys. With unwavering strength and determination, she raised five children on her own, persevering through countless trials and tribulations. Her strong will and deep love for her family carried her through even the hardest of times.
For years, she worked at a little gift shop on Fisherman’s Wharf called The Harbour House, a place she truly loved. When she retired, her focus became solely on her family, dedicating every moment to her children. Everything she did was for them, and her love for them was boundless.
In 1951, Eleonora came to America to live with her grandparents, whom she lovingly considered her parents. She carried their love and guidance with her throughout her life. She was a woman of immense warmth, always thoughtful and considerate, never missing a celebration or milestone of those she held dear. Her devotion to family and friends was unwavering, and her generous spirit extended beyond her loved ones to her faith and community.
Eleonora was a devout Catholic who gave selflessly to her church and anyone in need. She would offer the shirt off her back without hesitation, embodying the true meaning of compassion. She had a deep love for sweets, but nothing compared to the love she had for her children—fierce, unconditional, and unparalleled.
A beautiful woman inside and out, Eleanora leaves behind a legacy of love, kindness, strength and faith. She will be missed by her family more than words can express. While she will be deeply missed, her spirit will live on in the hearts of all who knew and loved her.
