In Loving Memory Of
Obituary of Carol Ann Smith
April 23, 1941 - January 26, 2025
Following a short illness, Carol Smith peacefully went home to be with her Lord on Sunday, January 26, at the William Childs Hospice House in Palm Bay, FL.
Carol Ann Folger was born in Portsmouth, NH, to Marjorie Wormell Folger and Michael Martin Folger on April 23, 1941, the only daughter in a family of 6 children.
On November 5, 1955, in Amesbury, MA, she married the love of her life, Airman Donald Eugene Smith of Harrisburg, PA, and was a devoted military wife for 22 years.
Carol graduated magna cum laude in May 1980, from Tennessee Temple University in Chattanooga, TN, with a BS degree in Elementary Education, and was a missionary teacher in Nassau, Bahamas, a Christian School educator, and Site Coordinator in Brevard County, FL After School Programs. She retired in 2011. Calvary Chapel of Melbourne, FL was her church home.
She enjoyed recounting family stories from her growing up years, and telling how Christ had changed her life and had forgiven her sins. An avid puzzle solver, Carol couldn’t wait until her husband was finished reading the newspaper so she could get to work on the daily crossword. Visiting and playing games with her grandchildren and great-grandchildren was a joy for her. Many an unsuspecting child was utterly surprised when she would win their stack of playing cards.
Carol is survived by her loving and faithful husband of 69 years, Donald E. Smith Sr, of Palm Bay, FL, and brothers: Paul Folger of South Berwick, ME; Richard Folger (Pat) of Sun City West, AZ; and Russell Folger (Karen) of Prescott, AZ. She is preceded in death by her parents, and brothers Michael Folger Jr., and Robert Folger.
Her four children are: Doreen Kay Dyess (Blaine) of Middleton, TN. Debra Ann Hutchinson (Mark) of Ft. Myers, FL. Donna Jean Shadrick of Melbourne, FL. Donald Eugene Smith Jr. (Suzanne) of Summerville, SC.
Her 11 grandchildren and 14 great-grandchildren are: Amanda Dyess Pennington (Russell) of Byhalia, MS – James, Silas, Jonah, Emma Matthew Dyess (Jessica) of Arlington, TN – Ava, Julia, Caroline, Georgia Grayson Dyess of Water Valley, MS Luke Dyess (Jamie) of Blue Mountain, MS Jeremy Hutchinson (Jessi) of Plymouth, IN – Tessa, Levi, Isaak Christopher Hutchinson (Krista) of Bloomington, IN Andrew Hutchinson of Salt Lake City, UT Nicholas Shadrick (Rosalyn) of Hixson, TN - Laurali Holly Shadrick of Melbourne, FL – Joshua, Karter Justin Smith of Huntersville, NC. Hunter Smith (Rachel) of Yulee, FL
Carol’s family requests that any memorial gifts be given to Samaritan’s Purse International Relief Organization, and of course, flowers are also appreciated.
“Precious in the sight of the LORD is the death of His saints” (Psalm 116:15)
