April 7th, 1932 - September 18th, 2023
Age 91, died September 18, 2023 in West Linn, Oregon, surrounded by her remaining children. Maria was born in 1932 in Uvalde, Texas. She was a devout Catholic and also a member of the Guadalupanas at St. Joseph Catholic Church in La Pryor, Texas, prior to moving to Austin, Texas in 2007. She is survived by her sons Saturnino Ortiz, Ramón Ortiz, Jr., Armando (Reyna) Ortiz and daughters Maria Elena (Chris)Gaona, Genoveva (John)Jolley, and Viviana Ortiz. Maria also had many beloved, grand, great and great-great-grandchildren. Maria was preceded in death by her husband Ramón Ortiz and sons Jose Luis Ortiz and Alejandro Ortiz. Her funeral services will be held at Rushing-Estes-Knowles Mortuary in Uvalde, Texas. Her final resting place will be in La Pryor, Texas along side her husband of 58 years, Ramón Ortiz. “Blessed are they that mourn, for they shall be comforted" (Matthew 5:4)

At Wilhelm's Portland Memorial, we have a rich history dating back to 1901 when we became the first crematory west of the Mississippi River, known then as The Portland Cremation Association. Our historic chapel, marked by its cornerstone placed on February 5th, 1901, has stood the test of time. Today, our memorial site spans 8 stories, approximately 7 miles of corridors of beautifully preserved architecture, and the largest mausoleum on the west coast, spanning 2.5 city blocks....
