Charles "Chuck" Foreman

Charles (Chuck) Clark Foreman died at home in Happy Valley, Oregon, at dawn on January 19, 2017. After a brief and unexpected battle with lung cancer, he was surrounded by loved ones when he passed, at the too young age of 59 years old. His devotion to family and belief in his Higher Power supported him in his journey of life and gave him peace. Charles is survived by his wife Lynn Marie Foreman; children Erin Grace Phillips (Glen), Allie Foreman, and Natalie Foreman, adopted son Justin Foreman, and step-children Alanna Monroe-Loop (Mike) and Adrian Monroe, all in the Portland area. He is also survived by his father, Richard G. Foreman of Pacific City, OR/ Green Valley, AZ; two grandchildren, Violet and Ivy Phillips of Portland; siblings Deborah Foreman (Don) of Waitsburg, WA, Richard G. Foreman, Jr. (Anne) of Los Angeles, CA, and Nancy Lucich (Todd) of Batavia, IL; and numerous nephews, nieces, aunts, uncle, and cousins throughout the USA. He is preceded in death by his mother and grandparents. Chuck was born on November 18, 1957, at Ft. Belvoir, VA, to Capt. Foreman of Gresham, OR, and Shirley Foreman (nee Eldert) of Alexandria, VA, and was the youngest of four “Army brats.” His early “Army” life led him to quarters in Virginia, Hawaii, Oregon and Texas; his siblings have especially fond memories of Chucky as the toddler when they lived at Schofield Barracks and on the beach at the North Shore in Hawaii. After his father’s retirement in 1967, the family lived for many years in the Milwaukie area near 82nd Avenue and King Road. Charles survived a serious boating accident in late grade school, and endured many related hospitalizations throughout his lifetime. Charles graduated from Clackamas High School in 1975. His higher education included some courses at Clackamas and Portland Community Colleges, but he was educated mainly from the “School of Hard Knocks.” He continued to live in the greater Portland area during his lifetime as he raised his family, remodeling several homes in inner city Portland, then building his Happy Valley home himself near Sunnyside Road in the early 1990s. Charles married his partner of many years, wife Lynn Foreman, in a beautiful ceremony at their home on December 18, 2016. Chuck’s early career out of high school was working on heating and air conditioning installations for residential projects. He eventually graduated to commercial construction, first with Total Mechanical where he became partner, and more recently with GLUMAC Engineers. In the past several decades, he has served as project manager for mechanical installations and other for the recently constructed 73-story Wilshire Grand Tower in Los Angeles, the renovation of 18-story Edith Green - Wendall Wyatt Federal Building in Portland, Portland International Airport renovation/ expansion, and expansion at Oregon Health & Science University campus in Portland. Charles was a gentle‑man and a 20+-year member of AA. He was passionate about helping others with their addictions, and bravely faced his own and other life challenges, including 60+ days accepting his fate with cancer. For a number of summers, he loved fishing with his dad and the Dory Fleet at Pacific City, and many winters he loved working on Ski Patrol or skiing with family at Mt. Hood. He also loved golfing and flying, owning a Cessna for many years. Chuck loved his family, was kind and soft spoken, and always had time to answer a question or help solve problems, especially over traditional family Sunday dinners. Charles and wife Lynn lived life to the fullest, one day at a time. Charles was cremated and ashes will be spread in many of the locations he enjoyed. A Memorial Service is scheduled Saturday, February 25, 1:00 p.m., at Sunnyside Church, 13231 SE Sunnyside Road, Happy Valley, OR 97015. All are welcome to attend and celebrate Chuck’s life.
