Gloria "Colistro" S. Catalan
September 16th, 1921 - August 2nd, 2016
Gloria (Colistro) Catalan was born in Portland, Oregon, where she lived her entire life. The ninth of ten daughters born to John and Filomena Colistro, she passed away peacefully surrounded by family. Catalan attended Lincoln High School where she was an avid athlete that loved to compete in basketball. After high school, she met her husband Anthony Catalan and they married in 1941. Widowed in 1963, she soon went to work at Eastmoreland Golf Course to support their two children, beginning a career that would span 40 years. Gloria became a fixture in the pro shop, and golfers from all over the city would remember her for the brilliant smile and genuine compliments she would so kindly give. Throughout her life she was a golfer, bowler and would become a champion Bocce Ball player. In her 70's she walked The Portland Marathon. Catalan was also known for her ability to cook. Whether it was meat balls, pizzelles or frizzitis, she never let you leave hungry. She is survived by children Anthony Catalan (Bonnie), Gloria Catalan Amato (Ted), grandchildren Tony, Tracey (Brian), Andrea (Matt), Ashley, Gavin and seven great-grandchildren who all loved their Nona very much. A service will be held at 11am on Monday August 8th at St. Mary's Cathedral. 1716 NW Davis, Portland. Wilhelm's Portland Memorial Funeral Home
At Wilhelm's Portland Memorial, we have a rich history dating back to 1901 when we became the first crematory west of the Mississippi River, known then as The Portland Cremation Association. Our historic chapel, marked by its cornerstone placed on February 5th, 1901, has stood the test of time. Today, our memorial site spans 8 stories, approximately 7 miles of corridors of beautifully preserved architecture, and the largest mausoleum on the west coast, spanning 2.5 city blocks....
